Starting a garden should feel like playing in dirt, not homework.
The literature I recommend is helpful and succinct. No intricate or scientific understanding of biology required.
Find a copy of "Starting Seeds" by Barbara Ellis, from the Books For Self-Reliance series. As books do, this small companion gives you power.
An addition to the same series is "Herbs For Long-Lasting Health" by Rosemary Gladstar. I used this small reference book to learn more about using my garden for more than vegetables. It's filled with wisdom.
For more information regarding environmental impacts and learning to live with changes in the climate and economy, read "The Transition Handbook" by Rob Hopkins.
